What a crazy day in Kenya

Ok, my mom and dad have been very busy these last couple days.  They have to drive 2 hours to Mombasa where they do most of their work.  So one day, my mom, dad, and Alta went to Mombasa and left us at home with no food! So what are we going to do for lunch? I will tell you what, we hiked with the ladies who work at the Shamba named Gertrude and Petronella for two miles just to get a Matatu (a small bus) which took us to lunch at "King James Cafe". It's just a little hoteli  (shack cafe) on the side of the road.  It was delicious!  Then we walked across the busy street to get a tuk tuk  (a three wheeled motorcycle with back seats and a cover) which took us back home.  What a crazy day!  All that for some lunch

The Differences Between Utah and Kenya

For the past few days we have been living in Kenya.  In Kenya, things are a lot different than Utah so there are some things I need to get used to.  Like the mosquitos, they carry malaria unlike in Utah there are less mosquitos and they do not carry malaria. When I got here for the fist time it was really humid for me.  I felt sticky, but in Utah it is one of the driest states in the United States of America.   Most people in Kenya speak English, but some kids my age don't.  So that is going to be hard to get used to by speaking Swahili myself.  The biggest loss is the snow and the skiing.   My family and I in winter in Utah ski every Saturday,  but in Africa there is no snow and in December it is the hottest month of the year.  Also one of the other biggest losses is that most of our holidays won't feel the same because people don't celebrate them like Thanksgiving, 4th of July , Halloween, and Christmas.   There won't be any snow like it says in most Christmas songs. When we were living in Utah and my dad said we were moving to Africa I giggled because that sounded crazy.  Then 2 months later, I woke up in Africa.    It is kind of like when my dad pretends to be zombie and scares us and we know he is just teasing us. Then the next day he really is zombie because he is eating my little brother.  I can't believe we are actually living here, it is so different and I love it.

My Church in Africa

The church sign on the gate.
On Sunday we went to church in Kenya for the first time.  So on the way there we got a little lost.  We turned on this dirt road with little houses on it and goats. We all said, "I don't think this is the road," but then we passed a sign.  So we backed up and that was the church. It didn't even look close to a church in Utah.  It was very little.   It had a flat roof and there was no grass. But when we pulled in I could already feel the Holy Ghost strong. Then we went in, we were a little late so we were in the back which was not that far from the front.  You couldn't really hear them. They talked really quite.  When sacrament meeting was over we go to primary? So we had no idea where to go so we just followed all the kids. They all went in one room. Primary was so different, they had little tiny chairs and all kids 11 and under were in there so we had a little lesson about Lehi and Nephi, then we sung like 6 songs.  They asked us to stand up and sing our favorite song.  I sung Book of Mormon Stories.  Everybody laughed when they heard my name for some reason. Then we played games and drank juice and ate candy.  Then church was over, no classes. Everybody had to either shake my hand or touch me on the way out.  That was my first day at church in Africa.

All About Kenya by Everett

Out the window of the car by Porter
First off, we made it! Yay!  and also I got to teach you about Kenya, my new home.  Oh the streets, well, you drive you see lots of interesting things.   On the side of the street lots of people trying to sell stuff.   Its like New York, but without the huge buildings. Its hut versions of them. I hate sitting in the car without a electronic because, its boring, and risky of loosing your life.  Because this one time we were driving and then it just got crazy, people kept cutting us off, and cars went in our lane for no reason.  When we cut someone off they flipped us off.   Also when we go by we also see monkeys, and above us there are monkey bars.  So when the monkeys want to cross they go across the monkey bars so they don't get hit by a car, and I think its really cool that they put that.
What we do when we are bored.   If you have a electronic use that, or play a sport, and if you don't have a ball or electronic your going to die.  If you just don't want to be sitting there with no electronics or a ball, read a book, or take a nap then if your by a beach your in luck, because we are close by a beach.  We were collecting seashells, but you can also build sand castles and play in the ocean its really fun but you might find something else to do.
Well, I guess that's all!

Driving to Mombasa

Alta's time at the beach

When we first arrived in Africa it was really humid and sticky.

We took a taxi to my grandpas house (called the Shamba la Salama) and it was like 2:00 am at night. So we went to bed right away. In the morning, Gertrude the person living there made us breakfast. Then we went to the beach. The beach is so beautiful,  there is white sand and beautiful sea shells everywere. We started collecting sea shells and I found a piece of coral that was in a triangle shape and there was a hole in the middle and it looked like the one off of the movie Coriline.  So I thought it was super cool. I really think Africa is a cool place and I am really  excited to find a home and to have a awesome life.

First Day in Africa

Our first day in Africa was one day I don’t think I will ever forget.  Some parts were annoying like the thick air and not understanding anybody, but it’s the cool things I want to tell you about. So when we were driving we saw monkeys on the side of the road and there are monkey bars above the rode  that go a across so the monkeys can cross the road safe. It was awesome. And the house is not a normal house.  It is completely open, there are lizards, hornets, and bugs lots of bugs! Also, we went to the white beaches of Mombasa.  Every were you look on the beach there are sea shells, big ones and small ones.

The Big City According to Everett

At the Statue of Liberty Aug 2013
So before we got to Africa we had to go to New York, the Big City. Day one out of three,  we went to the National September 11th Memorial Site. Then we went to the Statue of Liberty, and we ran all those stairs and I really wanted to take the elevator.  When we got to the top, I couldn't even see over the wall.  It was not worth it at all, I ran all those stairs for nothing!  Those were two fun/ cool things on the same day.
Then we were walking for hours and hours, but it was worth it because when I walked past that corner I could not believe my eyes, there was lights, stores, big billboards, and shiny billboards.  They had it all, but then I saw it. It was called Shake Shack.  They sold the best hamburger I ever had, I used to hate hamburgers now I love them.
Day two out of three, we went to the same place, but we went to a different place.  It was the fanciest restaurant ever.  It was it was the best food I ever had for a long time.   After that, we went to Broadway and saw Annie it was a lot better than the movie.
Day three of three, we went to church.  Then we went biking to a park.  Then we played at it, then we went Shake Shack again.

My Awesome Trip to Lake Powell

Ok I have been to Lake Powell before and I love it but this time we did something we have never done before. We did the fly board. The fly board is like rocket boots. You get in and then you fly. You go shooting in the sky. The first time I did it I totally wiped out like 10 times but then I got the hang of it.  I did it all the time.  I felt like Iron Man moving like 8 feet above the water then bam! I lost balance and fell strait on my chest the wind was knocked out of me I was all like I’m never doing this again but I did that night and I loved it.

My New School

My new school

My new school is awesome it has a Olympic size swimming pool tennis courts and a lot more I’m especially excited about the education there school goes one more hour but then I can stay an extra hour for other stuff like tennis or swimming even math I can’t wait to go. I also get to go to their seventh grade I will be so smart. And at p.e we play succor and field hockey.

My new school

In a few days my family and I are moving to Africa to start a new life including a new school. When I heard that I was going to go to a new school with tennis courts swimming pools awesome foreign teachers and cool clubs I could join I was so exited. When I heard that my teacher was British  I freaked cause I love British people my teacher is a boy and his name is Mr. Fisher , I am really hoping he is nice. My new school is going to be really strict but they will have really fun things we will do like soccer and ground hockey. The down side is that we have to wear uniforms that are navy blue skirt and a buttoned up white shirt. I am going into sixth grade because they don't have kindergarten they just have first grade instead so in two years I am going to junior high! am really looking forward to going to my new school but I am going to miss my old school Hobble creek elementary
, and I am going to  miss all of my awesome great friends and how nice they are and I am going to miss my teachers Mrs.Condie  Mrs.McAfee  and Mrs. Sexton.

Alta Fairbourne

the other side of the family.

So we all know the Popes well, this is the other side of the family, the Fairbournes.
My grandma, we call her grandma Vicki, my grandpa, we call him pooba, my aunt her name is Stefanie.  There is my grandpa's brother Steve,  and my two cousins,  Courtney 12 year old and Abbey 5 year old.  We were all at my grandma's house. And at my grandmas house there is this tree. Our favorite tree to climb. We all have are own place to sit, also we put a cooler in the tree, we had a bucket where we put some thing in it then then pull it up with a string and  we did lots of fun stuff in that tree.

We also went to lagoon. We went on lots of rides and some times I'd be on my tippy toes to be taller for the rides. We also played games. We won lots of prizes. We stayed there till night. The next day we did something called tasty science.  We got food and did science with it. Also we watched movies, drove a Barbie jeep.  We played with our grandmas dog named bear, and we watched TV or play on our electronics when we were bored.
Also while I was at my grandmas house something cool was going on, there was this class and it taught you how to build an app on the last day I went and I finished the whole thing, every body thought mine was the best and also they did theirs in three days and I did mine in one day.

get my app, pet time ... get it.

but I'm going to miss that family
well I'm going to miss every one
but I'm going to miss them a lot.
Everett pitching his app, "Pet Time"

the two fun trips

We had two fun trips one after another.

First. we went to Lake Powell and we had lots of fun. We went cliff jumping of huge cliffs. We
also went tubing,  knee boarding ,wave boarding , and a lot of swimming like, jumping of the
houseboat and swim far far away or we can go down the slide. Down the slide it's really fun to be in the water, but this is what we do when we are not in the water. We go on hikes, we play cards, but best of all we have story time with.... Everett.  My story's are about my six girlfriends which are
from the scale to one to ten. Mauri is one, Lydia is two, Nicole is three, Kendal is four, Halle is five, and last also least MacKay. If you are one of these girls now you know.   Now back to Lake Powell, we did do some rocket boots there like a jet pack but with water I did a small trick.  There was two people that I guess met but they became my friends there names were  Nikko and Macy and I'll miss every one  who was at Lake Powell with us.

Second. we went to snowbird. We went on lots of rides, like the tramps, its four tramps that have a bungee jump attached to a harness that your wearing.  It makes you go super high, and you can do lots of flips, also there was alpine slide, its like a roller coaster but you get to control the speed, there is a handle bar pull I back. Pull it back slowly it slows you down, push it forward you speed up, and there's a rock climbing with three courses, and a bungee jump its like the tramp, and a bounce house
and we did it all.

We had lots of fun during those two fun trips.

My fun Vacation with the Fairbourne Family

I love my Fairbourne family they are awesome. This week my family and I spent a week in Snowbird. We had a really good time. My Aunt Stephanie and my cousins Courtney (12) and Abbey (5) were there and my grandma and grandpa. The first day of being there our family arrived at 2:00 am because we drove straight from Lake Powell. In a couple of days we went to do the activities which included alpine slide, ropes course, bouncy houses, zip line, rock climbing wall and the bungee trampolines. We get an all day pass which costs 40 dollars so we stay from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Also that week me and my cousin Courtney went to the awesomest, cutest, most talented boy band concert. Their name is 1D which is short for One Direction. They are Courtney and my favorite singers of all time. That night we colored and curled our hair, and put on 1D fake tattoos. We were so exited! When we got there we were kind of late but it didn't matter because the beginning band was playing and they were pretty bad. When One Direction came on the stage we all went crazy! It was so loud we could not hear them sing, all we heard was screaming and yelling. They sung lots of awesome songs when it was over I was really sleepy and fell asleep on the way back. The next couple of days we went swimming, we went on a couple walks to the point, we went to the game room a lot and spent our money on the stupid claw, and other things. The last night we were there we went to see a movie they were projecting  outside. It was called, Mrs.Doubtfire, we got there early so we could have front row.  A half an hour before the movie started they were playing music to keep people entertained so we were dancing to the music and Abbey fell over and freaked out. It was so funny that I reenacted it and when I did a big group of people walked by and actually thought I was hurt so the rest of the music we kept tricking people and it was really funny. After the movie was over we went back to the hotel and went asleep. In the morning we left Snowbird and went to grandmas house.

At grandmas house we went into her tree a lot and we made a pulley with a bucket so we could put things in the tree. Courtney and me put a cooler in the tree and we put drinks in it and snacks . One of the days we were there we went to lagoon with my dads cousin Alison she is really nice and fun. All day we went had a lot of fun and we would give Alison money and she would win us stuffed animals in the booths. We went on mouse trap like five times in a row and the last time we were going to go Everett didn't want to go so when we were on it Everett sat down on a bench with Alison ,and Everett got stung bye a bee and Alison got ice and napkins and settled him. Later that day we left lagoon. The next day Courtney's family left and Porter was sick so that was not the best  day of the week. The next day
we left. I love my family so much they are a fun awesome family. I don't want to leave them but Africa is going to be awesome!

My Tennis Tournament

I had been training all summer with my tennis team. We played other cities and then finally the day came when we had our last big tournament as individuals. even thought I was an hour late I caught up I was doing really good. I beat four people in a row already I was feeling very confident. I won set after set after set. I was undefeated. I was ranked number one out of my group so I played my best I was really nervous but I knew I could do it. So sine it was the very last set we played a normal set to 6 you have to win by two points. We played and played game after game it was really hot and we both where very tired but I still tried my best and then it was over I won first place out of everybody. I got a 21 which is really good because the highest you can get is 25. I took that trophy home and showed it off.
